Fancied pugilist prevail in inaugural LFL

The inaugural boxing meet of the Lanka Fight League (LFL) in collaboration with Boxing Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) conducted at the Royal MAS Arena boxing ring yesterday ended successfully with fancied boxers prevailing with ease.
The meet saw 16 of the best boxers in the island comprising of 10 in the Men’s and six in Women’s categories in action and flexing their muscles to showcase their talent. Eight bouts were worked off with five bouts for men and three bouts for women that included present national champions and some who have been successful at international boxing meets.
The LFL have come forward to conduct this meet with the aim of encouraging and support the boxers to showcase their talent and to take local boxing to greater heights. The organisers rewarded the boxers with cash awards for the participants in all the bouts that was conducted with the winner receiving Rs.50,000 and the loser Rs. 25,000.
Dian Gomes, incumbent President BASL stated that he was satisfied with this new concept, which is a good start and this would no doubt be a great encouragement for the boxers.
“We intend to expand the league and look forward to involve foreign boxers, we have not finalised to conduct the next meet but it would most probably be before the end of the year as a lot need to be looked into,” he stated.
