“In any disaster China has been among the first to offer Sri Lanka assistance. China has assisted Sri Lanka in numerous ways, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic and the present economic crisis,” says Jinith de Silva, president of the Sri Lanka China Society.

As a response to a request by the Society, several NGOs in China granted more than 1,000 scholarships worth Rs26mn.
Recently the Enlai Foundation in Beijing granted 100 scholarships to students in Sri Lanka. Each student received a Rs 20,000 one-time payment.
