OPEC Fund sponsored tech ed development extended
View(s):The Cabinet approved the extension for the completion of the Technology Education Development Programme implemented under the OPEC (Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries) Fund’s provisions.
Although the project was inaugurated in 2018, the pandemic and the economic downturn in the country hindered its completion in 2022.
The Cabinet earlier approved an extension for the project until March 30, which included plans to construct 36 laboratories (4 each in all 9 provinces) and to renovate and upgrade 15 existing laboratories.
At present, the progress is at a halt with only 65 percent of the programme completed.
Plans to spend the foreign exchange to purchase equipment and develop teachers’ skills are underway to create technology units at 135 schools. (DW)
