Peradeniya undergrads attempt Everest
View(s):A team of six undergraduates that left the country last month reached the Island Peak, their destination 6,189 metres above mean sea level last week. This climb to the Everest Peak was organised by the University Exploders Club of the University of Peradeniya.
The undergraduates commenced their climb on the first week of April.
The team included Sanduni Kanchana from the Faculty of Engineering. This was the first time a female undergrad was included in the university team.
The other members of the team are J B Harsha Dharmapriya (leader), R M T T B Samarakoon, H M C S Madawala, W H M Dilshan, and M M H A B Mannapperuma.
They underwent regular exercise at the physical training department of the University to withstand the dangerous and steep climb.
Vice Chancellor Professor M D Lamawansa and the Dons congratulated the team on their achievement.
