Holy Cross Gampaha emerge badminton champs

Holy Cross College, Gampaha emerged runners-up at the All-Island Girls Division ‘D’ Inter-School Under-17 Team Badminton Championship, held at the St. Thomas’ College Badminton Indoor Stadium in Bandarawela. The tournament, conducted by Sri Lanka School Badminton Association, was held during the April holiday season, where Holy Cross shuttlers beat Bandarawela Central College 3-0 in the semi-final to emerge runners-up.

In the preliminary round, they beat Buddhist Ladies College Colombo 2-0, St. Anthony’s Girls’ School, Kandy 2-0, Ratnawali Balika Vidyalaya, Gampaha 3-0, to reach the semi-final stage. The team, coached by Mahesha Ekanayake, was led by Vishawara Gunawardena and included Nulandi Dabrera as the vice captain, Shenali Thashmika, Uthpala Basnayake, Shenoli Fernando, Urshala Fernando, Sithvi Cabral and Dewthi Amarasinghe.
