Kandy’s Adler Chorale to present Themagula for Vesak

View(s):

In the heart of Kandy, amidst the walls of St. Anthony’s College, a chorus rises–the Adler Chorale, born from the passion of its alumni.

On May 25, the Adler Chorale will perform for Vesak, marking a significant moment in their musical journey as they take the stage to present Themagula - An Evening of Devotional Music at the E.L. Senanayake Library Auditorium.

The choir’s reflection upon Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing enunciates the universal appeal of music in bridging cultural and religious divides.

The Adler Chorale: Drawn together by their love of music

Adler Chorale’s performance for Vesak will serve as a reflection on the enduring message of compassion and understanding, echoing the timeless teachings of Lord Buddha.

Since its inception in 2010, the Adler Chorale has been soaring in Kandy’s cultural skies. Their journey began at the Antonian Choir’s annual performance “On Eagle’s Wings”.

A year later, under the guidance of Rev. Father Araliya Jayasundara OSB, the choir presented their debut performance “Carols of the Light”. This was the inception of the Antonian Alumni Chorale, originally called  “Lucis Cantores” (Singers of the Light).

Anaz Haniffa, one of the founding members, reflects, “The name ‘Adler’ meaning Eagle, embodies a spirit of freedom and fortitude, resonating deeply within the choir. The members of the choir drawn from diverse backgrounds and faiths, contribute to its character and unity. It’s a brotherhood forged by our love for the college and our passion for music.”

The Adler Chorale’s song selection is a melodic fusion of languages from archaic to modern, from foreign to local. Every selection is a deliberate reflection of the choir’s values, celebrating linguistic diversity, ensuring a culturally enriching musical journey for all listeners.

Join the Adlerites at their upcoming performance for Vesak on May 25 at the E.L. Senanayake Library Auditorium at 6.30 p.m.
