Policeman saves woman from attempted suicide

A traffic sergeant rescued a woman who attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge into the Kalu Ganga in Ratnapura.
The incident occurred last Sunday around 1.15 pm when the 35-year-old woman had jumped off from the Ratnapura Warakathota Bridge and into the river. 
Sergeant Chaturanga Saman Gallage and a few other Police officers had been on duty near the bridge along with the Traffic OIC C I Sanjeewa as
they were carrying out the Yukthiya programme.
A driver of a vehicle had informed the Police that a woman had jumped into the river. Police sergeant Gallage upon hearing that had got into the river in his uniform in an attempt to save the woman
from drowning.
Sgt Gallage was helped by other Policemen.
The woman, a resident of Dela Kambadola Kukulagala, was saved by the sergeant
and was admitted to Ratnapura hospital in a Suwasariya ambulance.
The woman had told the Police that she felt sad after her sisters told her to leave the house as she was suffering from a skin ailment.
Police said that the woman was currently receiving treatment.
