Book on local hospitality industry
View(s):Flight Lieutenant (Rtd.) Subodha Angammana has authored a book “Master Guide on Hospitality” filling a gap where there is local publication on the hospitality industry.
The author is a versatile individual with a diverse background in hospitality, catering, and military service. He began his journey by attending Trinity College before pursuing a basic housekeeping course at the Ceylon Hotel School, where he gained valuable experience during industrial training at Taj Samudra.
During his hospitality studies in Australia, he gained practical experience at prestigious establishments such as the Sydney Tower revolving restaurant and Eurest Catering, where he had the honour of working at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games.
Upon returning to Sri Lanka, Mr. Angammana continued his career in hospitality management with Ceylon Leisure Management before relocating to the UK, where he worked at various renowned restaurants including McDonald’s and Mood Nightclub. However, his adventurous spirit led him back to his homeland, where he embarked on a new chapter by joining the Sri Lanka Air Force.
“What is significant about this book is that it is the very first book on hospitality that has been written by a local,” he said. “In this book, I cover a range of topics related to the hospitality industry from the most insignificant aspects such as the types of rooms, folding napkins, and cleaning toilets to the most crucial elements such as food preparation, responsible liquor service, and so on. It is not an academic book, but a practical book.”
