Rain hampered proceedings of the Major Club T20 Cricket Tournament yesterday, but NCC succeeded to record their third successive win, defeating Police SC by 8 wickets in a rain shortened encounter played at the Surrey Village ground in Maggona.

The match got off to a late start due wet outfield and was curtailed to eight overs per side with Police SC taking first lease of the wicket and making 62 for 5. NCC, in their run chase, was helped by useful knocks from Kamil Mishara and Sahan Arachchige. Together they shared an unbroken stand of 36 runs for the third wicket and raced to the target in five overs.

Panadura SC pulled off a close win by 5 runs over Colts in another match played at the NCC ground. Panadura, taking first lease of the wicket, was helped by a 42-ball 57 from Lahiru Dawatage, who hit four boundaries and three sixes. He also put on a valuable 96-run partnership for the fourth wicket with Oshada Fernando as Panadura SC posted a challenging total of 162 for 6.

Colts, in their turn, was making steady progress and at the halfway stage of the innings were on 76 for 3. But they lost quick wickets as Panadura bowlers skittled them out for 157, six runs within the target.

Meanwhile the two matches scheduled to be played in the evening session were called off due to heavy rain and ended in no results. Kurunegala YCC was 18 for 6 in 7.1 overs against Bloomfield at NCC and the match between Ragama CC and CCC was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
