Vinuthi Siyansa Meegoda of Horizon College International, demonstrated remarkable skills by securing the silver medal in the World Schools Under-7 Girls’ Chess Championship held in Lima, Peru last weekend.

Competing against 33 players, Siyansa scored an impressive 7.5 out of 9 points to clinch the silver medal, and expand Sri Lanka’s medals tally to five, following the gold, silver and two bronze medals won earlier in the competition days before.

The FIDE World School Chess Championship 2024 took place in the Constitutional Province of Callao in Lima, Peru, from April 30 to May 10. Organised by the Peruvian Chess Sports Federation (FDPA) on behalf of FIDE, the championship featured competitions across six age groups – U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, and U17, with separate events in Open and Girls’ categories. A total of 1200 chess players from
26 countries participated in the event.
