Wariyapola claims Rotary 6s
The 2024 edition of the Cricket 6s Tournament exclusively organised for Rotarians and Rotaractors of Sri Lanka, took place at Nittawela in Kandy last week. The tournament, organised by the Rotary Club of Kandy, was sponsored by Sun Match, in memory of its founder and business entrepreneur, the late T.R.R. Rajan.
The T.R.R. Rajan Memorial Trophy was won Rotary Club of Wariyapola while its Rotaract category was shared by the Rotaract Club of University of Peradeniya and Rotaract Club of Nallur Heritage. Colombo Mid City emerged runners-up among Rotary clubs. Among sponsors who came forward this year were Crystal Pack, Swarna and Sons, W.K. Holdings, EasyFit and Pharmax Healthcare.
The late T.R.R. Rajan, who was the 51st president of the Rotary Club of Kandy, did a yeoman service to the community. Better known as TRR, he was as a versatile sportsman, sports benefactor, philanthropist and a gentleman of the highest calibre. He was the first to offer a sponsorship to the Kandy Sports Club rugby team in 1992, the year they won their first Clifford Cup. Later he sponsored the rugby team of Old Trinitians Sports Club. He also gave a big hand for hockey, which his father P.T. Rajan reintroduced to Kandy. At present all his good work is continued by his brother B.D.R. Rajan.
The event brought together over 1000 Rotarians and Rotaractors, which has been an annual get together taking place for the 19th time in Sri Lanka.
