The team representing the Faculty of Law, Colombo comprising two third year undergraduates and a final year undergraduate — Peheli Rubasinghe, Janindu Balalle and Theshani Weligamage emerged as runners-up in the Concours Jean Pictet Competition held in Pokhara, Nepal, in late April.

The reputed international competition based on International Humanitarian Law is now in its 44th edition.

The Law Faculty team’s impressive performance was significant not only for their alma mater, but also for Sri Lanka, as it was the first time a Sri Lankan team had ever made it into the finals where they competed against the University of New South Wales from Sydney, Australia.

Colombo Law Faculty alumni Anuk Dharmasena, Nisara Wickramasinghe, and Kalindu Dharmapriya, coached the team. Faculty Dean Professor Sampath Punchihewa and Senior Treasurer of the Faculty’s Moot Court and Debating Society Professor Naazima Kamardeen were also an intrinsic part of the team’s success.
