Lyceum Gampaha make waves at National Age Group Swimming Championships 2024

In an exhilarating showcase of talent and determination, the young swimmers from Lyceum International School, Gampaha left an indelible mark on the National Age Group Swimming Championships 2024, organised by Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU). Held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Swimming Complex from April 24 to 28, the championship witnessed fierce competition among some of the nation’s most promising aquatic athletes.

Under the guidance of dedicated coaches Shehan Dias (Head Coach), Kamal Jayarathne, Naradha de Mel and Chandima Rupasinghe and teacher-in-charge Sakuni Nisansala, and fueled by their passion for the sport, the Lyceum Gampaha team delivered a series of outstanding performances across various age categories, ultimately clinching the coveted runners-up position in the overall standings for girls.

In the Under-11 Girls’ category, notable achievements were seen from Yuliana Perera, who showcased her versatility by clinching podium finishes in multiple events. With stellar performances in the 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle, and 50m Backstroke, Yuliana’s determination and skill propelled her to podium success. Joining her in the ranks of medalists were Tashmi Galagedara and Siheli Liyanage, whose commendable performances contributed valuable points to the team’s overall tally.

In the Under-13 Girls’ category, Keyara Ranepura emerged as a standout performer, clinching top honours in the 200m Freestyle and 400m Freestyle events, along with podium finishes in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Butterfly. The Under-15 Girls’ category witnessed a dominant display from Pavani Galagedara and Yunaya Perera, who clinched multiple gold and silver medals, showcasing their prowess in Breaststroke and Freestyle events, respectively. Induwary Wickramarathne, Govindi Dharmawardena, Anuththara Jayasundara, and Hasali Senevirathne also delivered commendable performances, contributing to the team’s overall success.

In the Under-15 Boys category, Dulaksha Ganidu and Kewan Ranepura displayed remarkable resilience and skill, securing podium finishes in multiple events and bolstering the team’s position in the standings. Shenushi Vihanga and Kithumi Nandasoma led the charge in the Under-17 Girls’ category, delivering stellar performances across various disciplines and cementing Lyceum Gampaha’s position as a force to be reckoned with in the sport of swimming.

As the championship drew to a close, the Lyceum International School, Gampaha team basked in the glory of their achievements, proud of their remarkable performances and the spirit of camaraderie that fueled their success. Their impressive showing at the National Age Group Swimming Championships 2024 serves as a testament to their dedication, talent, and unwavering commitment to excellence in the pool.
