‘Sigiriya AI’ to help children learn more about Sri Lanka
While artificial intelligence (AI) is revolutionising the global technology landscape, each country has its own history and culture that many people don’t know about. Learning and acquiring knowledge about a country and its rich cultures in their languages is an advantage and privilege to many.
LankaGPT Technologies (Pvt) Ltd has developed a tool ‘Sigiriya Ai’, a text based chatbot for the Sinhala and Tamil speaking people located globally. The company hosted a pre-launch media briefing at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo last Monday. The product will be officially launched to the public by the second week of July.
Sigiriya AI, Co-founder and Director, Lakshitha Karunaratne during the briefing stated, “OpenAI ChatGPT has an accuracy of 70 to 75 per cent. With Sigiriya AI we intend to increase the accuracy to 90 to 95 per cent. Sri Lanka has an age old culture, which needs to be protected with the help of AI. Sigiriya AI is a Sri Lankan centric platform.”
LankaGPT Technologies (Pvt) Ltd, Co-founder and Managing Director, Lasitha Gunasinghe emphasised that Sigiriya AI is more focused on the children of the country. Preserving the culture and educating the children about the history of the country and bringing awareness among the public is the emphasis. “As long as there is a lot of information, people get more educated and knowledgeable. We don’t give an opinion. We only provide all information related to a question,” he noted.
Mr. Gunasinghe also stated that the tool will be free of charge to education, agriculture and healthcare sectors, with the hope of driving innovation, empowering communities and fostering sustainable development.
The initial version of Sigiriya Al will be a text-based platform designed to support Sinhala and Tamil and will encompass various dialects, regional phrasing and pronunciation nuances. The tool was created using a collection of proprietary data sets including 10 billion Sinhala data sets and 10 billion Tamil data sets, developed in partnership with a multitude of academic institutions.
