Man caught smuggling 61 liquor bottles at BIA

Officials of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested a Lankan arriving from Bangalore, India with items worth 1,000,000 rupees at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on Friday (31).
The arrested individual was identified as a 37-year-old resident of Wattala, and a businessman who has a record of importing and selling foreign goods while engaging in frequent flights.
The individual was arrested while attempting to exit through BIA’s green channel.
Among the seized items were 61 whiskey bottles (42 bottles of Label 5 and 19 bottles of Ballantine’s) and 26 kilograms of cardamoms.
The arrested individual and the seized goods were handed over to BIA’s customs officers for further investigations.
