Josephian swimmers achieve major victory
View(s):St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, consolidating on their recent achievement in becoming the Sri Lanka Schools All-Island Age Group champions for the 18th consecutive years, renewed their status by winning the 48th National Age Group Swimming competition, organised by the Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU), which was held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Swimming Complex, with a massive total of 662 points.
Raneth Nagahapitiya, Sakindu Pigera, Aaron de Saram and Akash Prabashwara secured first places with their exceptional performances, along with other young Josephian swimmers who secured second and third positions in the respective events, bringing glory and honour to their school.
Akash Prabashwara was outstanding out of the lot, as he went on to win the 100m Butterfly, 200m Butterfly and 1500m Freestyle events in the Under-20 age category. Sakindu Pigera earned the spotlight with four wins in the Under-13 age category, claiming the 50m, 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle events. Aaron de Saram claimed the 200m Backstroke event in the Under-13 age group, while Raneth Nagahapitiya was placed first in the Under-11 100m Butterfly event.
