AOD launches 2024 Campaign. Design Beings ; A celebration of a creative generation involved and evolved to revolutionise the world for a better future

With a legacy of over two decades in creative education, AOD has been a significant influencer in Sri Lanka’s creative and design industry and economy. Its partnership with Northumbria University, Newcastle UK, spanning over 15 years, with more than 2000  graduates throughout has strengthened its position, offering students the opportunity to graduate with a globally recognised UK design degree alongside a unique AOD design education  in the fields of Fashion & Textile Design, Fashion Design & Marketing, Interior Architecture Design, Graphics & Visual Communication Design, and Motion Graphics & Animation Design, fostering a strong bond between Sri Lanka and the UK design education.

“The New Campaign” is an annual flag point of AOD centered on the values and futuristic perspectives of the institute and its students, as well as the evolving culture and trends in Sri Lanka’s design and creative industries, both locally and globally. This campaign serves as a guiding force for all events and the overall aesthetic of AOD throughout the year. Thoughtfully curated, it brings fresh perspectives and values to both students and AOD, enriching the design and creative ecosystem of Sri Lanka.

Design Beings: Involved and Evolved the new campaign for 2024 signifies a deep dive into Generation Z, a demographic emblematic of societal change. AOD’s students, many of whom are part of Generation Z, serve as catalysts for this cultural evolution, actively participating in redefining societal norms within Sri Lanka. Their collective efforts reflect a multifaceted identity driven by a shared commitment to progressive change.

Despite initial misperceptions labeling them as “weak” or “overly sensitive,” Gen Z has demonstrated resilience and determination in facing global challenges head-on, such as COVID-19, economic instability, and social injustice. Their passion sets them apart, fueling their desire to create something new.

“Design Beings: Involved and Evolved”, the new campaign of AOD 2024, conveys a powerful message about the inclusive and expansive nature of creativity, affirming that it provides space for everyone and enriches the world. It emphasises the importance of balancing thought and emotion, integrating cleverness with kindness, and ensuring that goodness prevails in all endeavors. The campaign celebrates the human capacity to innovate with technology while staying connected to the natural and supernatural elements of life. It advocates for a world where progress ensures everyone’s rights and well-being, urging us to strive for a society grounded in reason and compassion. This message underscores that both our presence and absence shape the world, reminding us of the true meaning of success: creating a beautiful, free, and just life for all. It embodies a vision where each individual’s contributions matter, highlighting the unity and collective effort needed to achieve a better future.

AOD’s Design Beings campaign not only embodies the transformative potential of one generation but also invites others to join in shaping the society of tomorrow. Their presentation emphasizes that to be involved and evolve in the shift towards designing the society of tomorrow, ‘design is the world itself, but the designer is you.’

AOD students stand out with their strong points of view, opinions, and belief systems, each working towards their unique perspectives. AOD’s ecosystem, which includes the Sri Lankan Design Festival and Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, along with our international and local partners across various industries, showcases the truth behind our campaign. The global and local awards won by our students and alumni further demonstrate our commitment and how we plan to establish this innovative concept.
