Allegations of threats during VFS probe: CID wants to record Harsha’s statement
Samagi Jana Balawegaya frontliner Dr. Harsha de Silva has been requested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to provide a statement over the allegations he made in Parliament that he faced threats and false accusations during an oversight committee probe into the VFS, which handled online and on-arrival visas.
Police Media Spokesman Nihal Thalduwa said the Public Security Minister had instructed the CID to carry out an inquiry after the matter was raised in parliament on Friday.
Dr. de Silva, issuing a statement in parliament, addressed the challenges and intimidation he faced as the chair of the Committee on Public Finance (COPF) while probing the VFS issue. “Certain people not only tried to intimidate me but are now resorting to slinging mud, falsely accusing me of being in cahoots with VFS to hush things. We will present a detailed report to Parliament, revealing everything we have uncovered during this investigation,” he declared.
He said he was committed to transparency and accountability in Sri Lankan governance, and these attempts to silence him would not succeed.
Meanwhile, police sources said Dr. de Silva had informed the CID that there was no need for an inquiry.
When the Sunday Times contacted Dr. de Silva, he said, “I will not comment on this matter at this moment.”
