Education Minister Susil Premajayantha has announced that 2,500 new teacher appointments for national schools are set to begin on July 3.

Plans have been made to recruit 2,100 teachers for subjects including Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, Technology, and Foreign Languages.

500 teachers would be hired in accordance with the results of the 2021 English Medium Advanced Diploma Examination.

The teacher shortage problem in national schools will be resolved by these appointments, he said.

Retired English medium teachers are also encouraged to apply for contract-based roles in order to help ease the lack of English-medium teachers, the Minister added. -NA
