Restaurant owner takes steps to soundproof premises after police warnings
View(s):The Borella Police, together with the Central Environmental Authority (CEA), has issued warnings to owners of a restaurant that hosts musical events at night to take measures to soundproof the premises.
The directive follows complaints to the police and the CEA by residents that the events hosted there were causing a disturbance to them at night, particularly during weekends.
An officer at the Environmental Unit at the Borella Police said the particular restaurant is both registered and permitted by law to operate as an entertainment venue.
The restaurant owner told the Sunday Times they were taking the required measures to help the neighbourhood have quieter nights.
“During events, two of the restaurant’s three doors are open continuously, and the noise could spread, creating a disturbance to the neighbourhood,” he said.
He said necessary soundproofing materials had been installed, and the restaurant was awaiting the go-ahead from the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
The Borella Police have also been informed about the noise reduction measures. “We are expecting its approval before long to proceed with our planned measures for sound insulation of the premises,” the owner said.
Presently, no events are being scheduled up to June 28, and the administration has arranged to run a sound test on June 28.
The restaurant has promised to solve the problem before the end of this month.
