Two in five people in Sri Lanka are computer literate, statistics show

Sri Lanka’s percentage of computer literacy has risen to 39 percent in 2023 from 36 percent in 2022.
A percentage of 63.5 percent falls under the category of digitally literate persons.
The report stated that 20.2 percent of households in the country possess at least one computer (desktop or laptop) making the estimate one in five.
An occupational breakdown of the census revealed that 70.3 percent of unemployed individuals between the ages of 15 to 69 are computer literate. The age group between 25 – 29 indicated a percentage of 83.7 percent, marking it higher than average. The age group 40 – 69 too possessed a computer literacy rate of one in four (28.3 percent).
Another highlight of the report was the source of computer training undergone by each individual which revealed that all residential sectors (urban, rural and estate) were exposed through schools and universities.
