Scholarships for all grades from President’s Fund
View(s):A total of 100,000 students will receive scholarships from the President’s Fund with each of them entitled to financial assistance each month.
This will be given to 6,000 GCE Advanced Level (A/L) students, 60 from each of the 100 education zones for a duration of two years.
These grants will be from March 2024 and continue through the end of their A/L studies.
Additionally, a scholarship scheme for students from Grades 1 to 11 is being implemented, encompassing all 10,126 schools on the island.
A minimum of 4 and a maximum of 22 scholarships will be awarded to each school, depending on the number of students.
“To support these initiatives, we have allocated LKR 4 billion from the President’s Fund,” President Ranil Wickremesinghe said, speaking at the scholarships awarding ceremony at Temple Trees. He said a better nation will be built for Sri Lanka’s youth.
He reaffirmed his resolve to end the nation’s economic crisis in less than two years, emphasising his commitment to making sure that no child in the nation suffers.
The introduction of the Presidential Education Scholarship Programme was to guarantee every child’s access to education, he said.
“I encourage these children to make full use of these scholarships and advance their education.”
During the ceremony, 5,108 students were awarded scholarships.
