Bohra spiritual convention shifted to Karachi, but some visitors likely to come here
View(s):The ‘Ashara Mubaraka’, the Dawoodi Bohra community’s spiritual convention that attracts visitors from several countries, has been shifted from Sri Lanka to Karachi in Pakistan, prompting some of those due in as visitors to cancel their trip to Colombo. But the Bohra community here is preparing to co-host the event by having live
satellite streams of the sermons delivered by His Holiness Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the spiritual leader of the Dawoodi Bohra community, and believes that some of the visitors will come here.
A Hoteliers Association spokesman said that soon after reports about the shift of the event, some of the bookings had been cancelled. He said, however, that some of the visitors, including those who may have visa issues when travelling to Pakistan, may come to Colombo.
A community spokesman said they were still expecting a large number of visitors to Sri Lanka. He said several countries had shown interest in inviting the spiritual leader, and accordingly, Karachi had been selected.
The event is due to be held for 10 days starting July 6.
Sri Lanka Tourism earlier anticipated that the event would not only foster cultural exchange and spiritual enrichment but also provide a significant boost to the sector, contributing to the country’s economy.
In March, Dr. Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin Saheb called on President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Sri Lanka last played host to Ashara Mubaraka in 2019, soon after the Easter Sunday attacks, to boost the image of the country as a safe destination.
