Construction on Apeksha paediatric ward, children’s park ongoing: SLAF

Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Commander Air Marshal Udeni Rajapaksa on Thursday provided an update to  Senior Adviser to the President on National Security and Chief of the Presidential Staff Sagala Ratnayake on the progress of the construction of the four-storey paediatric ward at the Apeksha Hospital, in Maharagama.

The ward funded by the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya is built with labour assistance provided by the SLAF. The foundation stone was laid on September 21, 2023.

“The need for this new paediatric ward complex arose due to the severe lack of space available for children in the existing paediatric wards at Maharagama Apeksha Hospital” SLAF said, adding that the construction of the ward was initiated by Basnayaka Nilame of the Ruhunu Maha Kataragama Devalaya, Dishan Gunasekara.

Additionally, the SLAF is also developing a children’s park while undertaking the repairs and renovations of the existing paediatric ward.
