Motorcycle Federation initiates revival of Sri Lanka motor-racing
Shane Gunawardena, the President of the Motorcycle Federation of Sri Lanka (MFSL), announced that racing activities in the country are set to be revitalised. After a period of decline, attributed to mismanagement by unscrupulous leaders of race organising clubs, notably at last April’s Foxhill Super Cross event, Gunawardena emphasised a renewed commitment to professionalism and safety.
The MFSL is set to launch a comprehensive marshal training programme in collaboration with FIM Asia will be held at the Proride Safety Riding School in Pitakotte on July 5. This initiative aims to standardise safety protocols and elevate the quality of racing events across Sri Lanka.
Gunawardena highlighted that four
international marshals, with extensive experience in both Formula 1 and MotoGP, will lead the training. This programme will cover essential skills for managing both gravel and tarmac events, ensuring a higher standard of race management and safety.
Registration for the training programme opens next week, with limited spots available for only 50 participants. This move is a significant step towards restoring the integrity and excitement of racing in Sri Lanka.
