Defending champions St. Peter’s College showed their strength with a big win against Kingswood College in a Dialog Schools Rugby League Tournament match played at Nittawela yesterday, as the visitors triumphed with a commanding score of 46-3.

From the start, St. Peter’s took total control of the game, leading 22-0 at halftime. They scored eight tries and three conversions throughout the match, leaving Kingswood the room to score only from a penalty.

The breakthrough came as early as in the 11th minute when Sajith Gallage scored an unconverted try, putting St. Peter’s ahead 5-0. Kingswood had a chance to score with a penalty in the 19th minute, but they missed out.

The Peterites continued their dominance with Vihan Rusith’s impressive try in the 21st minute, extending their lead to 10-0 after a missed conversion. Captain Dulaj Nawodya burst through Kingswood defence in the 30th minute to score St. Peter’s third try, but the conversion was missed again, leaving the score at 15-0. Just before halftime, St. Peter’s capitalised on their momentum with another try near the posts, which was successfully converted, bringing the halftime score to 22-0.

After the break, St. Peter’s didn’t slow down. Vishenka Silva scored his team’s fifth try of the day in the 47th minute, widening the gap to 27-0. Skipper Nawodya added to the tally with his second try in the 57th minute, and this time the conversion was good, making it 34-0.

Kingswood finally got on the scoreboard in the 60th minute with a penalty, making the score 34-3. However, St. Peter’s responded swiftly with another try in the last minute by Nawodya, bringing the score to 39-3.

In the dying moments of the game, Vishenka Silva sealed St. Peter’s victory with another try, from an offload Sajith Gallage and scoring near the left corner. With the successful conversion, the Peterites seale a comprehensive 46-3 win, their second of the season following last week’s 112-0 thrashing against Thurstan College.
