Wesley College scored from a total of 12, perhaps their best tally in schools rugby, as they dominated Thurstan College by 70-3 in their Dialog School Rugby League match played at the Air Force ground in Ratmalana yesterday. This marked their second consecutive win this season, following their 21-14 victory over Zahira College last weekend. Out of their 12 tries, five were converted on the way to record one of their biggest winning margins in history.

Winger Kavisha Dilhara, flyhalf Kaizer Lye, centre Dillon de Silva, No.8 Sandul Gammanpila, and Adeeb Yoosph each scored two tries for Wesley, sending a powerful message to the other teams in the top tier.

On the losing side, Thurstan faced another tough lesson after their 0-112 loss against title holders Peterites, as Wesley left no room for the men in blue, gold, and red to dominate the game. With yesterday’s defeat Thurstan’s has conceded a total of 182 points in two outings.

Wesley’s scoring began early in the second minute when Kavisha Dilahara breached the defence to touch down at the right corner. Despite heavy winds, Abdul Haadi failed to convert. Four minutes later, Dilhara scored again, bringing the score to 10-0 with the conversion missing once more.

Taking advantage of Thurstan’s errors, Wesley saw Dillon Perera and Sandul Gammanpila scoring tries, extending their lead to 20-0. In the 29th minute, Mohommed Fawaz made a brilliant run from their half to score, but the conversion was missed again by Haadi. Dillon de Silva and Kaizer Lye also added tries, further solidifying Wesley’s lead. Gammanpila scored again just before half-time, as Wesley led comfortably at 37-0.

In the 45th minute, Yoosph scored his first try, with Haadi successfully converting to raise the score to 44-0. However, Nethupul Lasanda scored a penalty, adding three points to Thurstan’s tally, their only scoring opportunity.

Wesley’s captain responded quickly with a try, but Haadi missed the conversion once more. De Silva scored his second try under the posts in the 56th minute, with Haadi converting successfully. Yoosph added another try six minutes later, although the conversion was missed. Lye sealed Wesley’s impressive performance in the 68th minute, converting his try to end the game at 70-3. Despite Thurstan’s challenging match, they displayed some resilience against the dominant Wesleyites.
