NSBM and IIT Madras Join Forces to Gear Up Sri Lanka’s Tech and Engineering Sectors

NSBM Green University (NSBM) and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT Madras) are set to forge a significant collaboration to empower the Technology and Engineering pathways in Sri Lanka. As the premier higher education institute in Sri Lanka, NSBM has taken this innovative step to further its ongoing mission of elevating the national higher education sector through strategic international partnerships.

In a remarkable move towards this mission, a delegation from NSBM, led by the Vice Chancellor Prof. E. A. Weerasinghe, visited IIT Madras on June 25, 2024. The delegation, comprising senior academics and an eminent industry leader, aimed to solidify plans for establishing an incubation centre in Sri Lanka, leveraging the expertise and resources of both institutions.

The delegation featured Independent Director and former Managing Partner – PwC Sri Lanka/ Member of NSBM Board of Directors and Senate, Mr. Sujeewa Mudalige, along with Senior academics at NSBM: Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Dr. Chaminda Wijesinghe; Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Dr. Chandana Perera; Head of the Department of Software Engineering & Information Systems, Dr. Mohamed Shafraz; and Head of the Department of Computer and Data Science, Mr. Naji Saravanabavan.

During their visit, the NSBM delegation met and engaged in constructive discussions with prominent IIT Madras academics and officials, such as the Director of IIT Madras, Prof V Kamakoti and the Chief Executive Officer of IIT – Madras Parvartak Technologies Foundation, Dr. Shankar Raman. The delegation also had the opportunity to tour the premises, witness state-of-the-art facilities, and explore innovative laboratories and centres at IIT Madras.

The discussions between the two parties focused on potential collaborative opportunities for significant advancements in Sri Lanka’s Technology and Engineering landscapes through this collaboration. This top-level visit also marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between Sri Lankan and Indian higher education institutes.

The NSBM-IIT Madras partnership holds immense promise for fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and technological progress in the region. By empowering future generations with the knowledge and skills needed for national progress, the collaboration is set to drive significant positive changes in Sri Lanka, fostering national prosperity and development.
