The Israeli tourist was found in this jungle area by a police party and taken to hospital

An Israeli tourist who went missing in Uppuveli, Trincomalee was found three days later yesterday following a joint search operation.

The woman identified as Tamar Amitai, 25, had visited Trincomalee last Tuesday and had made a booking in a hotel via internet.

The hotel had made a complaint to the police that she had gone missing since Wednesday.

A search operation had been jointly organised by the police, army and the Eastern Province Tourism Authority under the directions of the Eastern Province Governor’s office.

They had received a tip off by a villager yesterday that a foreign woman was seen in a dazed condition near a rock in a jungle area, about three km from the hotel.

The tourist was admitted to the Uppuveli hospital and was in a stable condition.

Police said they were due to record a statement.
