Parliament to hold 2-day debate on the Resolution for the Implementation of External Debt Restructuring agreements

The Committee on Parliamentary Business has decided to debate the Resolution for the Implementation of External Debt Restructuring Agreements on July 2 and 3, Chief of Staff and Deputy Secretary General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne said.

This was decided on Friday at a committee meeting held under the chairmanship of Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena and with the participation of Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.

Accordingly, Parliament is scheduled to meet on Tuesday at 9.30 a.m. and it was decided to hold the debate until 5 pm. The President is also scheduled to make a special statement to Parliament on that day regarding the implementation of external debt restructuring agreements, the Deputy Secretary General added.

It has been decided to hold this debate for the second day on Wednesday from 9.30 am to 5 p.m., following which a vote would be taken.

The resolution is being submitted to Parliament to grant the necessary permission to the Minister of Finance to implement the final agreement reached between Sri Lanka and the Official Creditor Committee (OCC) on the Debt Restructuring of  Sri Lanka on June 26 and the Final Amendment Agreement to Loan Agreements reached between Sri Lanka and the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM Bank)  also on June 26.
