Shamlan enters record books
View(s):Three-year-old Shamlan has entered into the Cholan Book of World Records for his eidetic memory.
The son of Fatima Ifasha and Mohammed Safan, residents of Hunupitiya, Kelaniya, Shamlan has not even received kindergarten education as yet.
He was able to recognise 1,098 images of numbers, flowers, fruits, birds, animals, grains, vegetables, body parts, reptiles, insects, fish, Sinhala, English and Arabic letters, political leaders, professions, iconic global landmarks, famous cricketers and sportspersons, food and household appliances.
As a one-year-old he was able to identify flags and currencies of 35 countries in 46 seconds, at a competition organised by the International Book of World Records, his mother said.
Shamlan has been named as the 3-year-old child with the highest memory in the world.
The Cholan Book of World Records is an annual reference book published in India, Nigeria and London which documents human and natural world records. Sri Nagavani Raja, Vice President of the Sri Lanka Branch of the Institute and Vice President Chandramohan, witnessed Shamlan’s fete.
