Soul Sounds @ 20 take to world stage once again

Soul Sounds, Sri Lanka’s premier female choral ensemble will this week take wing to Auckland, New Zealand where they will represent Sri Lanka at the world’s biggest choral event – the World Choir Games from July 10-20.
“This year, as we are celebrating 20 years, we thought it would be nice to compete again, also given that although some founder members still remain, we also have a fresh set of voices, and we wanted them to have the unique Soul Sounds experience,” says Soul Sounds founder and director Soundarie David Rodrigo.
Accompanying the choir on drums is Christopher Prins, and for the folk section (another category they are competing in) will be Ravibandu Vidyapathy.
Soul Sounds (pictured on our cover page) are supported for the World Choir Games by their key partners Cargills, Fonterra, Devi Jewellers with HNB as their banking partner.
Meanwhile, the Soul Sounds Academy Children’s Choir, drawn from students from the Soul Sounds Academy (which currently has over 400 students between the ages of 8-16) will be competing at the 13th Bali International Choral Festival in the Children’s Choir category as well as the Teenage Choir category. The festival from July 23-27 is organised by the Bandung Choral Society in Indonesia. Twenty four of the young choristers will also be competing at the Solo Choir category.
The children’s choir is conducted by Shenuk Wijesinghe and the teenage choir by Shivanthi Subramaniam.
