The story of a teenage boy saving a four-year-old relative from certain death after he fell into a 36-foot unprotected well was reported from the village of Mahakumbukkadawala in Puttalam.

Mimsara

Akash

Four-year-old Akash would often come over to 15-year-old Nimsara’s house to play.

On that fateful day after playing together, Mimsara said he had even fed little Akash some rice, and Akash had said he was going home while Mimsara had gone to his kitchen. Soon he heard little Akash calling out to him, and then there was silence. Fearing the worst, Nimsara had rushed to the unprotected well closeby and saw little Akash bobbing up and down. Giving little thought to his own safety, he jumped in, pulled Akash, and grabbed at the motorpipes in the well while holding on to Akash.

Nimsara had then shouted out for help, and Akash’s mother and two others who had heard his cry had rushed to the scene and managed to take the two boys out to safety with great difficulty.

The grateful mother said Nimsara’s act of bravery was a feat that even an adult may have feared to do.
