Several accidents during the week, 7 deaths and many injured
View(s):A series of accidents took place this week killing at least seven and causing injuries to many.
In the latest incident, five people were injured in an accident on the Badulla-Bandarawela main road .
The incident occurred when an SLTB bus playing from Badewella to Bandarawela veered off the road near a fuel station and went into a culvert.
The injured were admitted to Demodara hospital.
Police said there were around 18 passengers in the bus at the time of the accident.
Another accident involving a tipper which occurred at Badulla, Thanpanguwa road on Friday, killed four people including the owner of the vehicle and left three injured, Police said.
The incident took place at Soranathota, Wehidawanguwa junction when the sand transporting tipper toppled across the road.
The deceased were identified as contractor/ businessmen R M Neel Kumara (58) and his three employees H. M. Lakamal (32), Maduranga, R. M. Thilalak Gunawardena (40), and M G Jayasinghe (63).
Among the three injured one was admitted to the intensive care unit of Badulla hospital while the other two are receiveing treatment at the same hospital.
The Police suspect that the accident occurred due to malfunction of the brakes of the tipper.
Another accident between a lorry transporting cement and an SLTB bus which occurred at Ireetikulam Madampe, killed the bus driver and two others while more than 20 were injured.

According to police the bus driver had lost control of the bus while speeding on a road that was slippery after the rains. Following the collision the lorry transporting cement had veered off the road and fallen into a ditch.
On Wednesday a lorry ran over four girls, two boys and a mother at Nugawela school junction on the Kandy-Kurunegala main road injuring them. The incident occurred on Wednesday. The injured were admitted to the Kandy hospital.
