Two more luxury hotels added to Sri Lanka’s portfolio
View(s):Sri Lanka’s billionaire entrepreneur, Dhammika Perera’s two luxury hotels are slated to open by next year-end, top sources said.
Mr. Perera, Chairman of Greener Water Limited (a fully owned subsidiary of Vallibel One PLC) and Chairman of Summer Season Ltd Mohan Pandithage in February 2020 signed two groundbreaking MOUs to establish global luxury brands JW Marriott and Ritz Carlton in Sri Lanka.
President – Asia Pacific (excluding Greater China) of Marriott International Rajeev Menon, and Regional Vice President Head of Business Development, Marriott International Kiran Andicot Executive Director, were in the country for the signing ceremony.
The luxurious 500-roomed five-star JW Marriott located in Negombo was to launch in the 4Q of 2021, while the Ritz Carlton with its 228 keys in Mirissa in the 3Q of 2022 but the construction was affected due to the economic downturn experienced in the past few years.
Officials said that the hotel sector of the company is now upbeat and will be resuming construction to complete the two hotels by next year’s end. Both hotels are slated to generate at least 1500 jobs.
