More complaints: Alleged paedophile teacher’s bail revoked

A teacher, who was on trial on charges of sexually assaulting a minor, has had his bail revoked and was remanded after he was accused of committing the same offence on three other occasions.
The accused had been indicted on charges of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old boy in August 2015. A verdict in this case is due to be delivered by Tangalle High Court Judge Udesh Ranatunga on August 9.
However, new charges were brought against him before High Court Judge Poornima Paranagamage. State Counsel Wasantha Thisera told court that complaints had been lodged with the Weeraketiya Police alleging the accused sexually assaulted three other children aged 16, 9 and 3 years. She added that the accused had gone into hiding after the facts were reported to the Walasmulla Magistrate’s Court. He was later arrested.
Taking the matter into consideration, Judge Paranagamage revoked bail for the accused and ordered him to be kept in remand custody until August 9, when the verdict in the first case will be delivered.
