The Turkish warship TCG Kinaliada made a port call in Colombo on Tuesday, and to mark its visit, a reception was held on board the ship.

Kinaliada is the first military vessel to conduct a port call to Sri Lanka since 2015. It made the port call in Colombo on its way to Japan as part of celebrations to mark the centenary anniversary of the establishment of Turkish-Japanese diplomatic relations.

State Minister of Defence, Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, was the chief guest at the reception.

Addressing invitees, Turkiye Ambassador Semih Lütfü Turgut said, “Based on the founding principle ‘Peace at home, Peace in the world,’ Turkish foreign policy focuses on peace and stability in its region and beyond, aiming to establish partnerships around the world for international peace and security.

“Based on its profound historical and cultural ties with Asia, Turkiye seeks to strengthen its cooperation with Asian countries through the Asia Anew Initiative launched in 2019.

The initiative provides a new vision for our outlook for the Indian Ocean region as well.”

He said Turkiye sees Sri Lanka, the pearl of the Indian Ocean, as a valuable and friendly partner in the region.
