The much-anticipated Ceylon Masters Badminton Tournament is set to commence from July 25 to 28, promising a spectacular display of skill and sportsmanship. This year, the tournament has received an overwhelming response, with a record 536 entries from 11 countries including Australia, Canada, China, India, Indonesia, UAE, Norway, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, and the USA.

To accommodate the increased number of matches, the organisers have secured an additional venue. Consequently, matches will be held across both the Mercantile Badminton Courts and the Otters Courts over the four days of the tournament. The grand opening ceremony will take place at the Mercantile Badminton Courts at 8:00am on July 25, setting the stage for a fiercely competitive event. The closing ceremony is scheduled for the afternoon of July 28, followed by a farewell dinner to honour all players and officials.

To ensure that the tournament meets international standards, the organisers have arranged for high-quality technical support and entertainment. A team of highly qualified officials, led by International Referee Lakpriya Edirisinghe, will oversee the umpiring and line judgments. Ajith Wijayasinghe, a former international referee, will serve as the Tournament Director.

The organising committee is spearheaded by Rohan de Silva, President of Ceylon Masters Badminton. He is supported by a dedicated executive committee comprising Sumudu Kumarasinghe, Jaliya Jayasekara, Tharanga Perera, Rohan Fernando, Sahan Pradeep, Sugath Thalwatha, Chandrika de Silva, Lakshmi Punchihewa, Lalith Yatiwella, Mangala Gamage, Priyanka Abeyratne, Senaka Attanayake, Thushari Brahakmanage, Wanda Ingram, Sachithra Vidanagama, and Nishantha Jayamane.

In addition to the intense competition, international players have been given the opportunity to visit some of Sri Lanka’s most interesting tourist destinations, facilitated by the designated travel agent. Transport arrangements have been meticulously planned, including transfers from the airport to the official hotel in Colombo, as well as shuttle services to the tournament venues. All winners will receive prize money and medals, adding to the prestige of the event.

With top-tier talent from around the globe and meticulous planning, the Ceylon Masters Badminton Tournament is poised to be an unforgettable event, celebrating the spirit of badminton and international camaraderie.
