Starlink to benefit country’s education sector
View(s):The introduction of Starlink with its improved internet connectivity would benefit the country’s education sector immensely by giving teachers and students access to worldwide resources and facilitating more creative and dynamic teaching methods, President Ranil Wickremesinghe has said.
President Wickremesinghe announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) has approved the launch of Starlink’s satellite internet services in the country, subject to a two-week public consultation period.
He highlighted in his message the transformative possibilities of this decision for Sri Lanka, especially for the country’s youth.
With faster and more reliable internet, young people can access global educational resources, engage in innovative projects, and thrive in this digital age.
Relief packages will also be introduced for the education sector.
The implementation of Starlink will be transformative for Sri Lankans, especially those facing challenges in maintaining reliable, high-speed internet access, President Wickremesinghe pointed out.
“This development will greatly enhance connectivity across the country, which is vital for participating in the digital economy,” added the President.
Musk’s SpaceX is in charge of Starlink, a constellation of satellites that provide high-speed internet to even the most remote regions of the world.
Its arrival in Sri Lanka is anticipated to close major gaps in connection, providing dependable, fast internet access to areas that have previously experienced inadequate or nonexistent internet service.
