Air Force and Ladies College share major honours at inaugural President’s Trophy Water Polo
View(s):The men’s and women’s teams of Sri Lanka Air Force and Ladies’ College secured major honours at the inaugural President’s Trophy Water Polo Championship, held at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex recently. Organised and hosted by the National Youth Service Council in collaboration with the Royal College Union Aquatic Club and Youth Vision 2028, the event attracted youngsters, mostly school leavers, now representing their alma mater or other institutions.
Air Force secured the Men’s Open title with a tally of 10 points, while Old Thomians Sports Club finished close behind at second with nine points. Following at third was D.S. Senanayake College with a couple of points apart. Isiwaruna de Silva of Air Force was named the Most Valuable Player. Isiwaruna, 21, is a diver from Air Force, who turned out for Royal College in watersports and track and field events.
Air Force, again dominated in the Women’s Open category, as they emerged champions with a total of 11 points, while Old Thomians Sports Club finished at second with eight points in the two-team duel. Airwoman K.D.A. de Silva was adjudged the Most Valuable Player.
In the junior categories, Ladies’ College claimed a double, winning the Under-19 and Under-17 Girls Championships while Visakha Vidyalaya won the Girls’ Under-13 title.
