Tamil Union, celebrating 125 years, elects new President, Secretary
Tamil Union marked its 125th year anniversary on Friday with a gala evening at its headquarters, the well-known cricket grounds known as The Oval following its Annual General Meeting.
Ramesh Schaffter, son of former All-Ceylon and Tamil Union cricketer and club President, Chandra Schaffter was elected the new President for the term of 2024 and 2025 and Anish Parathalingam, son of S.A. Parathalingam PC and grandson of the late T. Parathalingam, former cricket captain of Royal College (1948) and Tamil Union (1959) was elected the new General Secretary.
Other office-bearers re-elected were Dr. Rajan Saravanamuttu (Deputy President), Dr. Shivaji Felix and Gemunu Rodrigo (Vice Presidents), R. Muralidharan (Treasurer), Sashi Ganeshan (Assistant General Secretary), Praveen Bandara (Assistant Treasurer), T. Selvaratnam (Cricket Secretary), K. Dayaparan (Ground Secretary), Dharisha Mirando (Bar and Reception Secretary), Gordon Nadesan ( Indoor Sports Secretary), Arjuna Arulananthan ( Pavilion Secretary), Lasantha Mendis ( Tennis Secretary), Chrishantha Jayasinghe (Assistant Bar Secretary), Dudley Thambinayagam, Harsha Fernando and Dr. Ratnasingham Thanigaivasan (Committee Members).
