This August, Das Buddhistische Haus in Berlin looks back on a century of being the pivot of Theravada Buddhism in all Europe.

Begun by Dr Paul Dahlke in 1924 the Buddhist House, neglected under Nazi regime, was brought under the wing of the German Dharmaduta Society by Asoka Weeraratna in 1957.

The Dharmaduta Society has planned grand centenary celebrations for Das Buddhistische Haus including an exhibition on August 3 in Berlin covering the hundred years and a guided tour of the house.

August 4 will see an international Buddhist conference also in Berlin with the participation of leading Buddhist scholars from all parts of the world, ambassadors from Buddhist countries, and other participants from different fields of academia and political and cultural backgrounds.

Celebrations in Sri Lanka will include the launch of a new book on Das Buddhistische Haus edited by Senake Weeraratna and Tissa Weeraratna and the issue of a postage stamp at a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena.
