‘Magatha’ : A theatrical critique on justice system

‘Magatha’, one of the most popular plays in late 1980s made by Asoka Handagama will go on the boards at 3.30 pm and 6.45 pm at the Elphinstone Theatre Colombo 10.

The new direciton is by Prasad Suriyarachchi, the music composition of the play is by veteran musician Rohana Weerasinghe. Produced by Srilal Wickremesinghe the play is organised by Jude Srimal.

Handagama entered cinema through the theatre and ‘Magatha’ was his third theatrical direction. The play a critique on country’s judicial system won the Best Original Script and Best Director award at the 1989 State Drama Festival. The drama script which was published in 2011 won the State Literary Award for Best Drama Script. (SF)
