Lanka mourns demise of Podi Hamuduruwo

One of Sri Lanka’s most widely known Buddhist prelates, the Venerable Galboda Gnanissara Thera of the Gangaramaya temple in Colombo passed away on Friday and the prelate’s body was yesterday brought to the temple where he had served for decades in taking the message of the Dhamma far and wide while setting up institutions to empower the poor and marginalised people. From yesterday, thousands of people came to the temple to pay their last respects to their beloved Podi Hamuduruwo whose cremation will take place tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the ground in front of the temple under state patronage.
