Lyceum International School, Gampaha once again claimed the Girls Junior National Championship, marking back-to-back victories with an exceptional performance at the Long Course National Swimming Championship, organised by

Sri Lanka Aquatic Sports Union (SLASU), concluded last Sunday at the Sugathadasa Swimming Pool Complex.

The Lyceum Gampaha junior girls amassed an impressive tally of 485 points, setting a new junior national record in the 4x100m Medley Relay. The relay team, consisting of Anuththara Jayasundara, Pavani Galagedara, Induwary Wickramarathne, and Yunaya Perera, clinched the gold medal.

Pavani Galagedara was an outstanding performer, securing a gold medal in the 200m Breaststroke. She also added bronze medals to her tally in the 100m and 50m Breaststroke events. Yunaya Perera excelled in freestyle events, winning five silver medals across the 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, and 800m Freestyle events.

Keyara Ranepura contributed significantly by winning the silver medal in the 1500m Freestyle. She also earned bronze medals in the 800m and 400m Freestyle events. Govindi Dharmawardhana finished fifth in the 200m Butterfly, sixth in the 1500m Freestyle, and eighth in the 800m Freestyle.

Anuththara Jayasundara achieved fifth place in the 200m Backstroke and seventh place in the 200m Freestyles. Induwary Wickramarathne also made significant contributions with a fourth place finish in the 50m Breaststroke and seventh in the 100m Breaststroke. She also competed in the 100m Butterfly, finishing eighth.

A.N. Sathsarani played a role in the team’s success with an eighth place finish in both the 1500m Freestyle and 50m Butterfly events. In the relay events, the ‘A’ team excelled, securing silver medals in both the Junior Girls’ 4x100m Freestyle and 4x50m Freestyle relays. The ‘B’ team finished sixth in the 4x100m Freestyle, fifth in the 4x100m Medley, and seventh in the 4x50m Freestyle events. The 4x50m Medley Relay saw the ‘A’ team finishing at sixth.

In the Senior category, Lyceum Gampaha achieved an overall ninth position. Shenushi Vihanga stood out with second place in the 200m Backstroke and third place in both the 200m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke. She also finished fifth in the 400m Individual Medley and eighth in the 200m Individual Medley. Kithumi Nandasoma made her mark with a seventh place finish in the 100m Backstroke.

Meanwhile, the school’s Junior Boys’ team also performed well, achieving an overall eighth place finish. Dulaksha Ganidu earned the bronze medal in the 200m Freestyle and finished fifth in the 50m, 100m, and 400m Freestyle events, as well as eighth in the 50m Backstroke. Kewan Ranepura secured the bronze medal in the 1500m Freestyle and was placed seventh in the 200m Freestyle and eighth in the 800m Freestyle events.
