Maliban icon passes away
View(s):A.G. Rathnapala. Samaraweera, the iconic Chairman of the Maliban Group of Companies, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 83. He was an alumnus of Ananda College, Colombo 10, where he received his early education.
Mr. Samaraweera was the son of A.G. Hinniappuhamy, the late founder of the Maliban Group of Companies, and Wimala Hinniappuhamy, who married in 1926. He grew up in a large family with eight siblings: Rupa, Hema, Sumana, Leena, Arunaa, Kamala, Ariyapala, and Mallika.
Today, Maliban is one of Sri Lanka’s most trusted brands, producing a wide range of crackers, cookies, and wafers, which are available in over 100,000 stores across the country. The company also has a significant global presence, exporting to more than 42 countries across six continents.
In an interview with The Sunday Times on December 20, 2009, he said that the vision of his father was carried forward whole heartedly for three generations.

What he implied in other words is ‘take care of your consumers and treat them as your family members’. I believe that this concept now appears in the marketing jargon whereas those days it was non-existent.
