Sri Lanka and Maldives explore education ties
View(s):Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the Maldives Ranga Goonawardana, recently met with Maldivian Minister of Education Dr Ismail Shafeeu to discuss enhancing educational collaboration between the two nations.
The talks focused on leveraging the shared history and cultural ties between Sri Lanka and Maldives to strengthen mutual growth, particularly in education.
They emphasised the crucial role Lankan teachers have played in shaping the Maldivian education system, with many senior Maldivian leaders being educated by them.
Minister Shafeeu expressed concern over the recent decline in Lankan teachers in Maldivian schools, stressing the need to reverse this trend to maintain strong educational ties.
High Commissioner Goonawardana reaffirmed Sri Lanka’s commitment to supporting Maldivian education.
The officials discussed the possibility of student exchange programmes to promote cultural understanding and build lasting relationships between future generations.
The meeting wrapped up with a shared resolve to continue strengthening the educational partnership between the two countries.
