Manusha, Harin join campaign to ensure President’s victory
View(s):Former Ministers Manusha Nanayakkara and Harin Fernando say they will concentrate on the election campaign of President Ranil Wickremesinghe after they lost their parliamentary seats and Cabinet portfolios on Friday following a Supreme Court order.
Mr. Fernando told the Sunday Times last night that he would be the coordinator for the 100 rallies to be addressed by President Wickremesinghe during the campaign.
A fresh programme among youth would also be launched as part of the campaign, he said, adding that he would be part of President Wickremesinghe’s campaign strategic committee.
Former Minister Nanayakkara told the Sunday Times that now he could focus full-time on President Wickremesinghe’s campaign to ensure his victory at the upcoming polls.
Manusha Nanayakkara, Labour Minister till Friday in President Ranil Wickremesinghe's government, is seen taking part in the Plantation Labour Union and Youth Leaders' meeting in Kandy yesterday together with the President and Minister Jeewan Thondaman.
“I have enough time now to focus on the election campaign and plan to travel around the country as well. This is a great opportunity and responsibility to work with the president’s campaign team,” he said.
The former Minister yesterday attended an event with President Wickremesinghe where they met with representatives of plantation sector unions and youth leaders.
The cabinet portfolios held by the two former ministers come under the president’s purview until the subjects are reassigned.
The Justice Ministry portfolio is also with the President after Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe resigned from the post recently.
