Sky Gallery of the Fareed Uduman Art Forum’s new exhibition featuring museum quality canvas prints of Gustav Klimt’s Masterpieces, the exact size of the originals, promises an immersive experience into the world of Klimt.

An iconic figure of the Vienna Secession movement, Gustav Klimt’s (1862-1918) works have captivated audiences for over a century. Known for his richly textured and gold-adorned canvases, Klimt’s art, characterised by its bold use of colour, intricate patterns and symbolic imagery, helped define the Art Nouveau movement.

Art historians note an eclectic range of influences contributing to Klimt’s distinct style including Egyptian, Minoan, Classical Greek, and Byzantine inspirations. Klimt was also inspired by the engravings of Albrecht Durer, late medieval European paintings and the Japanese Rimpa school.

His work is often distinguished by elegant gold or coloured decoration, spirals and swirls, and phallic shapes used to conceal the more erotic positions of the drawings upon which many of his paintings are based. One of the most common themes Gustav Klimt used was that of the dominant woman, the femme fatale.

Among the highlights of the exhibition are: The Kiss (1908) -one of Klimt’s most iconic works; Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I (1907) known for its stunning use of gold leaf and exquisite detail; and Danaë (1907-1908) known for its sensual and mythical themes.

“Sky Gallery is committed to making art accessible and engaging. We are proud to present this exhibition as part of our ongoing mission to bring world-class art experiences to the public and provide a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work in a dynamic and welcoming environment,” says Jomo Uduman of the Gallery.

The exhibition will be on at Sky Gallery, Colombo 5, from Friday, August 16 until Sunday the 25th. Viewing times are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day.  An elevator is now installed to take visitors up to the gallery!
