LTL to ship out $1.7 million-worth transformers to Mauritius

LTL Holdings Limited’s transformer manufacturing arm   is gearing to export its first lot of special design transformers to Mauritius.

Nuhuman Marikkar, CEO of LTL Holdings Limited, told the Sunday Times Business on Thursday that the company secured an export order from Mauritius for 300 transformers each 150kVA (22kV/415V) at a value of US$1.7 million through an international competitive bidding. “We will be delivering these transformers in  four consignments and the first shipment of 75 transformers will be shipped out soon as factory acceptance test has been passed and witnessed by the international testing inspectors appointed by the utility of Mauritius, The Central Electricity Board.”

These transformers were manufactured and tested at transformer manufacturing facility of the LTL Group at Angulana, Moratuwa,which is equipped with state of art testing facility for transformer teasting.

The Notable design feature of these transformers are in the use of special material called amorphous,imported from Japan and China inabid to reduce transformer losses, Mr.Marikkar added.He said the company obtained this order through an international compettive bidding against the suppliers of China and India. “Due to high quality design and material usage which enabled 60 per cent reduction in losses LTL transformers became internationally compettive on life cycle evaluvation.”

He said that LTL recently developed advanced designs and use of special materials to obtain a competitive edge over conventional transformer manufactuers in the region.”Most importantly LTL is developing its produts on reducing the technical losses towards contribution to sustainability.”

Mr. Marikkar furthers stated that while catering to Sri Lanka’s growing electrification requirement with the increasing energy demand, LTL has been exporting transformers for the last few decade, venturing into various part of the world including the African region which is considered a potential market for the company.

in certain African nations electrification is in the range of 50 per cent,which presents good oppertunities LTL, he explained. He said that LTL is also planning to explain a production facility in the future to serve this region to manufacture high quality transformers, he added.
